Behold the power of physics! This pyrex test tube takes advantage of the indices of refraction of oil and pyrex to vanish.

All you need is a pyrex test tube, a clear container, and wesson oil (ie canola, corn oil).

  • Nothing new here. The government does that to my paycheck every week.

  • It's not so much the reflective properties, it's just that the glass has the same refractive index as the oil so light doesn't bend as it passes between the tube and the oil.

  • Very cool!

  • Nice

  • Christ, that was a horrible demonstration. At least unsubmerge the tube so we can clearly see the process.

  • It has the same reflective properties (I believe.)

We did something like this a few days back in AP Chem with a silicon type substance.

  • COOL!

  • This is so awesome. I love how physics can show us the limitations of our perceptions of reality.

  • Fuck WMG.
