Time Lapse Super 8 film I took on Earth Day in 1990. DOTs contribution to the festivities (mostly in Central Park) was to show how pleasant life would be without cars and cabs gumming up the streets. This occurred in the first year of the Dinkins administration and may have been repeated once or twice. The film shows both transitions to bus only and back again, including a ride also. The audio is a tune (unidentified) from an early web radio show called Vik's Lounge (1997) broadcast in RealPlayer 2.0 (dial-up friendly) and recorded onto cassette.

Sadly, almost nothing has been done to speed transit on 42nd. And there are no plans to do anything either, despite the grand efforts of George Haikalis and the IRUM.

All the Mr. Importants in their expensive cars won't stand for congestion charges or transit exclusive lanes that would actually serve to make their motoring lives immensely more pleasurable.

Notice also that there are virtually no bikes seen in this film, though there were thousands of bike messengers and numerous others biking bike then.
