To many reasons to list here. Dividend. Speculation. Investment. Option trading is just a part of stock trading.

There are great option spreads out there that can cost as little as 50 dollars to trade and is the maximum risk. So, 5K would be more than enough. Some objectives are to diversify and keep each trade to a small percent of your account. (This is my opinion and not financial advise.)
