  • @Droofedamite: The paddle I use is a traditional style Aleut paddle in Western Red Cedar wood. I have been using a "stick" for paddling for a couple of years and I prefer it to a Euro (big blade) paddle. More details on my blog at gnarlydognews.blogspot.com

  • The camera mount is a custom job specific for this kayak. It requires modifications to the deck and fibreglassing. Each and every camera mount for my kayaks is a one-off job. I have engineered the mounts to be sturdy enough for surf work but supple enough to break away in case of real trashing in the shallows. The mount is a truly custom job of fabricated parts, not a collection of off-the-shelf items.

  • it's a custom DIY job specifically designed for the North Sea

  • I am using a modified SeBird Designs North Sea kayak.

    I have removed the rudder.

  • Blondes are overrated but I don't mind a brunette :-)

Water was 27C and no insulating clothing was necessary, if anything a dip was needed to cool off every so often.

I usually wear a helmet in the surf to minimize injury when on rare occasions I come in contact with the hull of my kayak or possibly a buddy’s that has broached on a wave towards me.
