At the North-East corner of the island of Java, Indonesia, a large volcanic complex includes Ijen. Its crater is filled by green-blue acid water and large fumaroles, on its side, emit sulfur vapors that condense and solidify into thick layers. Many miners descend into the crater break the sulfur crusts, fill their baskets and with the heavy load on their shoulders, start a long journey up the crater and then down on the side of the mountain to deliver the sulfur to a local factory. Two such journeys per day will yield the miner the equivalent of about 10$.

  • Nice! But the music is tooooooooooo noisy. These people work in very hard conditions - not in a Star Wars atmosphere.

  • Excellent documentary. Never seen anything like this before. Thanks for showing us how tough making a living can be.

  • Molto interessante, ben fatto!

    Saluti, Stefan

  • Interesting video, and matching music, thank you for sharing.
