Mannn, when I'm a parent, offcourse I'm gonna whopp my kids if they get out of line, but in a loving parent-kind-of-wayyy..LOL some parents get carried away and relieve their stress on their kids. That's wrong, when you're mad at your kids, take some time and cool off, then explain to the kid why you're upset with them, and punish them accordingly. You dont always have to whopp them, but according to the severity of the situation,as a parent you should be able to decide an appropriate punishment

my mom spanked me all the time when I was a kid and I didn't and still don't see it as abuse. As long as your not trying to beat them to a bloody pulp or because your stressed there's no problem. problem today is too many people scream abuse over little things. time outs do not work. maybe for some but not everyone.

I'm so fed up with the whole "Oh my God, Kate spanked Leah." Ok, and many parents spank their children every day., I'm one of them. My dad was another one. I was spanked many times, and not like Kate spanked Leah. Mine were bare bottomed, bent over, with a paddle. If a camera had followed my parents around everyone would have had something to really talk about. 30 years later I'm grateful to my parents for every spanking that I got.
