More than 400 students, alumni, staff and supporters of the Schulich School of Engineering at the University of Calgary gathered at a farm southwest of Calgary on September 19, 2009 to send a message to the International Space Station using specially-designed LED lights. The six-minute message was delivered as the ISS passed overhead with Canadian Space Agency astronaut and U of C alumnus Dr. Robert Thirsk on board.
