A video with playback of the "record". I have discovered that the last track (#5) on this one is "Midnight in Paris" By Duke Ellington. Still trying to identify the actual album. It's been suggested by Neoteric Films that the album may be Duke Ellington And His Orchestra -- Ellington Fantasies
UPDATE: The second attempt failed due to there being some sort of residue on the stamper and the glue stuck to that ;)

***I can't believe this video has over 20,000 views. Nice to see so many vinyl enthusiasts out there. When this reaches 150 unique comments I will send this actual "record" to that person.***

  • STOP your messing up the needle

  • @cmed451 Soft glue. Didn't affect it in the least. And this was the only time it was played.

  • Have you tried melting real vinyl pallets in it your self?

  • @bangulo2012 No, I only tried wood glue. I suppose using vinyl would be cool but not as interesting ;)

  • Most fascinating; many thanks for sharing.

In case you don't already know, the title of that track (3) that you play in the video is ‘Comme Ci, Comme Ca’.

This means the stamper was, as you guessed, used for ‘Ellington Fantasies’ released 1967 on Harmony HS 11236.

Incidentally, back in 1978 Pickering released a special split stylus that allowed playback of stampers on an anti-clockwise revolving turntable.

For further info, look up Patent 4113266

    Cheers, Charles (Australia)

  • @HMV101 Thanks. Not sure that would have had any practical home uses other than playing Beatle records backwards ;)

  • @madnessdns Yes, but it will sound in reverse so you have to put the needle on the inside and it will go toward the outer side. On this video it plays right because the stamper itself is reversed...

  • will that work with glue on vinyl ?

  • i wonder how many times that will play

  • Cor! Amazing fidelity even though jazz is boring

  • wild!

  • Wow! I would include that (copy) in my collection. PS check out PhonoboyAD1984's vids.

  • wtf zach galifianakis likes DIY?

  • This is fantastic! Great idea.

  • Awesome video! I stumbled across this months ago, and stumbled across it again tonight! :)

  • About playing stampers back, there are a major issue about because stampers or "matrixes" are really negatives from the original acetates, so, instead a groove them has a "ledge" or protruding winding row that has audio modulation in itself.

If one try to reproduce such a "route", the point of the needle will lie between two turns of recording, playing both adjacent turns at a time with the obvious intermixing of signals, also with a high distortion due to the bad tracking of the stylus point.

  • The album is "Midnight in Paris", and the title of nº3 track (those that you are playing) is "Comme çi, comme ça" created by Pierre Dudan and Bruno Coquatrix, this later was the owner during many years of world famous Parisien "Olympia" music-hall.

Only a question: how and from have you got this stamper? (of course, if that isn't a true secret)

  • WOW! I have some 78s and a bootleg Zep from Albert Hall I really dont waht to put a need le on

  • yes it will blend

  • @madamerotten Yes, you sure have to. When I first saw it I didn't really believe it :)

  • @Flygbeaver Amazing. You have to give that guy a lot of credit for his perseverance.

  • @madamerotten seen this? watch?v=JVM18iJTMZs

  • @bangulo2012 Yes, I figured as much. But the question is, was it really good chocolate or just lousy Hershey chocolate?

  • @madamerotten there is a guy that already does it with choco

  • @madamerotten already been done in the early 20th century.

  • @HMV101 That's amazing. Thanks for this information. I have looked extensively into the work of Emile Berliner, who is considered the father of the disc record, and never even heard of Stollwerck. It seems their venture into the phonograph business was based on an agreement with Edison, but that their machines were extremely fragile, and that they lost a ton of money trying to market them.
