He was the original Topal in the London Cast way back when... then he was the original Topal in the revival in the late 80's.

That's true that Topol used a lot of the mannerisms. He credits Zero for making everyone who played Tevye who they were for the character. Topol was also wise to make the character his own. I love both of them but I do go with Zero for being the original.

Zero was THE Tevye. It is amazing how many minor inflections and mannerisms Topol absorbed from Zero's performances into his own. I like them both, but Zero was the real original.
