A historical video clip of the mass resignation of 108 Iranian members of parliament during its 6th session.

In January 2004 shortly before the 2004 Iranian legislative elections (the 7th Parliament), the conservative Council of Guardians put a stop to the problem of Iranian voters' continued support for reformists by taking the unprecedented step of banning about 2500 candidates—nearly half of the total—including 80 sitting Parliament deputies. More than 100 MPs resigned in protest and critics complained the move "shattered any pretense of Iranian democracy".

شش سال پیش در چنین روزی ... از امروزی گفته شد

حال که مستی زدگان قدرت و مدهوشان استبداد [...] عزم خود را جزم کرده اند تا با حذف جمهوریت نظام و در نتیجه اسلامیت آن [...] سراشیب سقوط را تا فرجام شوم آن و سوختن در آتشی که خود هیزم آنند طی کنند، ما را [...] گزیری جز استعفا از عنوانی نیست که از این پس در آن خیری برای ملت و فخری برای خود نمی یابیم.
