1993 Kawasaki Vulcan 500. My first bike, bought it used, 8,850 miles. Just remember to paint the exhaust tip or coat it with rust protection stuff, I was going to do it the next day, but it ended up raining and got some rust...

UPDATE: The rust was easy to remove with some fine steel wool (for polishing), and then I used a high temperature spray-paint (I bought it at home depot, its for furnaces and BBQ's) to coat the holes afterward. I let it dry about 2-3 hours and then rode for about 20 minutes or so. It still looks good and doesn't rub off. I'll put up a video with the newly painted exhaust tip soon. There is no need to rejet the carbs.

  • Can this pass MOT/yearly inspection with holes in the exhaust?

  • @drumbeat360 I honestly don't know. New Jersey is one of the very few states that got rid of inspections on motorcycles (they did it recently like last year right around the time I bought it). I don't see why it wouldn't because I didn't drill out all the baffles just the back plate. Also the bike is really emissions friendly... don't quote me on it, but I remember reading somewhere a while back that this bike processes the exhaust gases again to provide cleaner emissions...

  • @drumbeat360 If I remember correctly I think it said that the spark plugs fire twice to burn any excess gases... I'd ask someone down at the inspection station or a mechanic that deals with the inspections.

  • I have a 2005 500 Vulcan and I like what you did with the Exhaust, I am planning do you the same , my friend has the same modification and it sounds great on his bike, but I do have a question, how long has be the 3/8" bit or how dip do you have to go.

  • @Hruiz71 I didn't go deep a all, I just did it until it broke through the outside cover. good luck, ride safe!

  • wow that sounds cool i have a 2009 kawasaki 500ltd can that same sound come out of a stock muffler?

  • @crican34p just make sure to spray-paint the holes afterward with high-heat spray paint (for bbq's and furnaces) because it will rust if you leave it exposed over night.

  • i have a 91 vulcan 500... the tailpipe looks just slightly different... it doesn't cone out like that... could i still do this?

  • cool i will try it thanks so much.

  • @crican34p this is the stock exhaust, except mine is a 1993. I looked at the 2009 one and it looks to be the same idea with a different slash-like design. You can probably do this mod the same way, by drilling 8 holes around the regular exhaust hole.
