ya, I also found the 1. Bf6 Kg8 2. Qh6 line... but missed the fact that black has many checks after that.

Sure Black can play 2...Kg8 or 2...Kh8 instead of 2...Kxh6 but in that case White mates with 3. Qf8 mate.

Thank You, but what i mean is: after 2.Qf4-h6+!! King have to g7xh6? Cant he in 2... escape to g8 or h8? To avoid mating net?

Yes it's possible after 1.Ne6+ to play 1...Kg8 or 1...Kh8 but then White can play 2.Qb8+ and it's mate next move since Black can only play 2...Qd8 and then 3.Qxd8 mate.

Mate in 3 moves means that it should be checkmate in 3 moves in ALL variations. After 1.Bf6+ Black is not obliged to take the Knight on f8, but can play 1...Kg8! and it's not possible to give mate in 3 moves since Black will have many checks the next moves. That's the fun of chess problems, you need to take into consideration ALL of Black's possible replies, not only bad ones.

mmm i cant see why the alternative that sveatch40 gives doesnt work

1. Bf6+ Kg7xf8

2. Qf4-b8+ Qd5-d8

3. Qb8xd8#

No, I don't agree, since after Bf6 Kg8 Qh6 Black has many checks for example, Qh5+

1. Bf6ch f8

2. Qb8ch Qd8

3.Qd8mate

If 1.....g8, then white plays Qh6 and mate next move. Do you agree?
