Ernest Chausson (1855-1899)

"Le temps des lilas, op.19", (poem by Maurice Bouchor, 1855-1929) / The time of lilacs

Nathalie Stutzmann, contralto
Inger Södergren, piano
1995.
_

Ne reviendra plus à ce printemps-ci;

Les lilas en fleur et les belles roses;

Point de gai soleil ni d'ombrages frais;

  • Remarkable! I hope she has recorded the whole opus (Poëme de l'amour et de la mer) with orchestra,as originally composed. Stutzmann is able to give the right melancholic expression to this beautiful poem. Many thanks to "operazaille"

  • What a gorgeous contralto voice! Like butter... And her phrasing is delicious, too.

  • @operazaile He is the man of my dweems. I'm not even kidding, I'm just bashful about my romanticism which is actually a kind of absurd sentiment to hold in the comment section of a video of a Chausson aria. Fuck post modernism and FUCK modernism. Ok , now I'm only partly joking ;)

  • This is a first-class performance. Thank you for uploading. Try listening to Victoria de los Angeles' version, too. It is also awesome.

  • Astounding interpretation....  So lovely.

  • Wow, very good recording! Much too well done for youtube both on the level of musicianship but also recording production.

    I miss the good old days when people still cared for that kind of thing.

    :(

    Good luck!
