BFD Forcible Entry: 1 Baseball Bat technique

The Halligan baseball bat technique for forcing inward opening doors in wooden jambs and light steel jambs as taught by Capt. Robert Morris FDNY. using this technique, one firefighter is expected to be through the front door of residential structures in 15 seconds or less.

Wrong address! Pretty funny! In the video, the reason he hooks it with the adz is just to practice closing it if fire conditions inside are found to be too intense to make entry without first applying water. Or in the event that you want to gain access to all entry doors for later use (possibly to make secondary exits for crews inside) but you don't want to change the air currents feeding the fire. Take care!

@kbk1061 kinda there are signs before you enter like the building may look like its breathing smoke watch different videos. watching the smoke is a big part and it takes a lot of experience to get good i still suck at it but mainly you cant be sure till you open a door and take a look thats why you always pull the door closed...just in case

@Detschman74 So with forcible entry you just watch for signs of rollover and flash over ? then make entry ?

@kbk1061 well if there is a possibilty of someone inside they come before the house and normaly VES is on a second story so you are going in through a window which is totaly different than forcible entry. both can happen at close to or the same time but they need to be in communication with each other to know what the fire is doing to prevent a quick retirement

@Ninjamonkey767 no your not missing anything and you are right but with the baseball bat method you are just breaking the door frame by ripping the deadbolt through

@kbk1061 to prevent anything bad from happening, giving the fire o2, backdraft, anything really, your getting the door ready for entry but not going in yet so why leave the door open
