Wanuskewin Heritage Park is three miles north of Saskatoon. The word, Wanuskewin, is Cree for "seeking peace of mind." Within the park is an interpretive center that tells the 6,000-year-old story of the Northern Plains people, by beautifully showcasing the indigenous culture in Saskatchewan. Wanuskewin also contains 19 pre-contact sites, all clustered within half a mile of each other. The Northern Plains Indians gathered here for thousands of years, hunting bison and gathering food to escape the winter winds.
