Yes, I watched it back then when I discovered N&S. It is so much better like that, and when I watch the shortened one, I can't help but see the missing parts !! The stress rising, the anger, the bitterness ! Both actors are truly excellent in that scene, as well as K Knightley and M Mac Fadyen in our beloved P&P.

Did you notice that when Thornton leaves work to go to Miss Hale's, he has his hat in his hand. After she refuses him, he leaves her home bareheaded and with nothing in his hands. What happened to his hat? Were his gloves inside his hat at the beginning of this scene?

I think he forgot his hat and his gloves, that must have been in a pocket. poor him, he's so depressed !

Well, I think he's just hopelessly jealous, for no reason at all. It's just that she's pretty, it's only natural for him to suppose other men courted her and proposed her, above all when she says that, as if she already refused to other men.

@witchhuntergio There aren't in the book. After Mr Thornton has gone she wonders if being proposed to is always as painful and distressing as the TWO she has received.

@loveinthebattlefield but she probably thought the proposal (his love for her) wasn't geniune. That's what I got from it. I agree with her decision to refuse the proposal.

Haha, love the way he starts proudly 'I came because...' and then he's just like 'err... what did I say that I should say? So cute !

I think I love the scene between mother and son just before the proposal even more yhan the proposal itself ! Thornton is SO cute & gorgeous at the same time !

Plus the two of them make a really good mother/son duet.
