Mercedes has GLK class as base model for their ML and GL. BMW has 2 base models X1 and X3 for their X5 and X6 models. Audi has Q5 model for their Q7. Look at their sales for the higher models, they only go up. Why?

It is brand loyalty and good marketing. Once you get your feet wet to that brand, you will most likely stick with the same brand and upgrade yourself to higher model next time you buy a vehicle . Brand loyalty is something money can't buy and this is what Porsche is looking for.

Well Porsche is smart enough to figure market space for both macan n cayenne. Cayenne will grow bigger to fit in 7 like Q7 does and I guess would get more off road capabilities like Landrover.

Macan will out sell any luxury SUV n create its own market snatching share from BMWs, infiniti and Q5.

Think this way...boxster never stole any share from 911. Both are class apart n have their own market place.

Best case scenario is that this Macan will render the Cayenne irrelevant. Once potential costumers get notice of this lower, sportier, more capable machine costing half as much, one can only expect sales of the Cayenne to suffer.

The Cayenne is their best-selling vehicle since 2002. The non "sports cars" create the financial ability for Porsche to produce cars like the Carrera-GT and GT3-RS (and other special editions). They can't solely have the sports-cars as models.
