Yes, Vesters, it does seem not much akin to the "free jazz" of, say, Ornette or Albert. but Jimmy was, and still is, considered an outside-the-box guy. His facility as a clarinetist is seen by many in the jazz elite to be not up to snuff. But too many forget that Johnny Dodds and even Pee Wee Russell were tops in their day. fact is, there's more to being a great jazz artist than a facility judged by european classical standards.
