I'm quite sure that, by August of '49, "Buffalo" Bob Smith, who hosted EVERY "PUPPET PLAYHOUSE" telecast since it began in December 1947 (as well as his morning "drive-time" radio show on WNBC-AM, New York), was "worn out" to the point where he said to NBC, "I NEED SOME TIME OFF!!!". So, "Rodeo Ray" filled in for him on this episode [but he still managed to pre-record Howdy's voice on disc], and others did fill in for him from time to time...but NOBODY could handle the show the way Bob did.
