A group based out of California but took on the British sound very well. Written and sang by leader of the group Emitt Rhodes, this was a very minor hit in 1967 and should have been much bigger than it was.

  • This song was also done by Linda Ronstadt under the title "(She's A) Very Lovely Woman". In fact, I first heard her version in 1970 or 1971, but I never heard this one until the late 1980s.

  • This is the only version I know. But I'll be sure to hear Linda's version when I can. Thank you. :)

  • yes, a lot of tunes in the 1960's should've been big hits-but weren't.

"You're A Very Lovely Woman" by Merry-Go-Round was in the groove of early Bee Gees like "Holiday" or "New York Mining Disaster". It should've made Top 20 Billboard! Also "It's For You" by Cilla Black & "Nowadays Clancy Can't Even Sing" by Buffalo Springfield both should've reached Billboard's Top 10!!!!!

  • In the end, I think it all comes down to the record companies and how much promotion they're willing to give a song. My guess is this song just wasn't of much interest to them and probably felt there wasn't any money to be made into it. It's groups like these that made me realize that you can still have a lot of talent and not have to be in the charts to be good.

  • merry go round beat out the left bank in the battle of the bands with this song in 1967

  • So. Who is this lovely woman ? One of Emitt's groupies ? I'd love to drink her wine.

  • A very good vocals! Not worse, than the ''Beatles''.

  • a real gem...up there with pretty ballerina...we had the best of times...thank you

  • Now this was a gem from the mid 60's I loved it and played it non stop Now I have found it again It should have sold much more and been played much more often

  • CLASSIC. Thank you :)

  • This is Emitt Rhodes early but he was already moving in the direction of a solo artist this is a great great song....I know there were tons of artists out there during the late 60s but this song should have had more air play... how can the song "love can make you happy" by the Mercy get to the top of the charts and this song barely make the top 100....

  • I still have the album with this song on it. No one I know has heard of this song or band. I was wondering if I was the odd person out. Thanks for having this song and others of this band here in YT. Loved their sound, too bad they were not given more credit for their music.

  • I can't believe I found this. I heard this when I was still at home. I just wondered if it was even around to be heard.

  • @Percivaldurham - This happens quite often to bands and individuals, in fact, much more than most people realize. My brothers are also musicians who know this all to well. You have to have the push behind you to take you to that higher step. ~ C. Rhodes
