actually....its chrystler...and if theyre on their last leg than why is dodge the only one that actually is sticking to the plan on putting out a 1/2 ton diesel and putting the same engines in the durangos...anyhow how, what would you consider a good mpg rating on an suv????? and ive read many places of these getting 22-26 mpg's, which again, for an suv is outstanding. any how, fuck european cars and just their whole way of life in general

@canadacatalyst The real problem is that the transmission is geared too low for offroading.

I've heard of people replacing the rear differential on a 2WD model.

Unless they have a transmission with five or six gears that will work you are stuck with subpar mileage.

i was wondering what i could do to get better fuel mileage the 3L? i havent found many sites helpful in this. i was looking for 30 mpg and getting rid of the cat and egr.

American car companies don't make diesels like these.

@tripovermyego No, as cool as that is, the mercedes engine in these jeeps are designed to run much cleaner than the diesels in 3/4 and 1 ton trucks run. No black smoke.

Though maybe it is possible to get it to do so when custom programming, just get the injectors to throw in more diesel fuel than there is air avaliable to burn it and you'll get black smoke. Gotta program it to do that manually though, even any possible aftermarket tuners probably wouldn't make much black smoke.
