This little clip should come as no surprise to anyone who watches The Golf Channel with any regularity. Brandel Chamblee has a major problem with "modern instruction", meaning any type of instruction that involves video analysis and technique work, and his feelings come out loud and clear (and obnoxiously) in his criticism of Tiger Woods and his coach, Sean Foley. What is mildly surprising is Chamblee's admission that yes, great players lower during their swings (he mentions Miller and Hogan), but he then adds that neither Hogan nor Miller "popped up" like Tiger as they hit the ball. It occurred to me that it would be interesting to look at Brandel's own swing, as he was a good enough player to stay out on Tour for over a decade. You can imagine my delight when I saw that Chamblee "pops up" as he hits the ball almost exactly the same way Tiger does. Once again, it becomes apparent that these TV guys say things that they believe are true, but have not done the work necessary to make sure that what they are saying has any merit. The videos are out there and the opportunity to do enough homework to back up statements about technique is also readily available. I fully intend to keep these announcers on their toes and accountable for their statements. People are watching, and there is a responsibility to get this stuff right.

  • What the TGC should do is hire a top 100 pga professional to do swing analysis instead of trying to find an eccentric personality that will rock the boat with poor information. I dont believe Tiger should always be praised...i personally think his new swing is too steep at times, but he shouldnt be always crapped on by guys like brandel. there is more good to talk about that bad.

  • Totally agree that Brandel is using the tiger subject to create a distinct identity and get people talking. He's flip flopped a number of times on the subject matter too, which makes him look even worse. He said at the PGA that tiger needs to leave foley and is getting the wrong info, then as soon as tiger showed form he said tiger can win with any swing given time...then he switched up his main point and now focuses on the fact that tiger wasted numerous years in his prime to retool his swing

  • lol nice one

  • I don't know where Brandel thinks heads should go in the swing. At the finish your head is obviously going to be higher than at impact, or you'd get a seriously bad back, so it must 'pop' up at some point!

  • Well done Wayne. You saw it coming. Should be a great 2012. Can he still beat Little Mac etc in the Majors? History says any of the greats only has about 10 years at the top.

  • I love watching these videos wayne, keep it up...

  • Wayne, I think it is clear from those comments that Brandel youtube searched his name and your video on his head movement was the first thing to come up and he is trying to redeem himself....

  • do a video on tigers swing at 2011 chevron world thing, i seen the first two rounds and he is back

  • I think Brandel is a nice guy, but I think he should understand that he's wrong most of the time. If your gonna be so passionate about something, make sure you actually understand what's going on before you repeatedly bash the best golfer of all time. Did it ever occur to him that "hey maybe tiger knows something I don't." he does Brandel, and its how to strike a ball better than you or anyone else. (Except hogan) So shut up and get back to playing lessons with Jerome Bettis.
