http://vault.ncaa.com/ Duke defeated Kentucky by a score of 104-103. This game was called the greatest college basketball game ever played by Sports Illustrated, and featured a famous finish in overtime. With Duke trailing by a point, Grant Hill threw a pass the length of the court to teammate Christian Laettner, who turned around and made a jump shot as time ran out.

This was a game in which it was a shame that someone had to lose. Both Duke and Kentucky played like winners! Either one of them could have won. Kentucky may very well have won the National Championship if they had won this game and moved on. It probably still is the greatest College Basketball game of all time! It is most remembered for Laettner's shot, but the entire game was great from start to finish.

I'll admit I'm a Duke Hater. Even though I wanted Kentucky to win this game, after the shot I was in a strange way happy at the result. Just because you knew at the time what a classic this was. For me (my NCAA viewing began in the early 80's) the 2 top games ever were this one and the 83' Final with NC State.

In my lifetime, this was one of the greatest games ever played, and almost without question, the greatest shot ever made.

I don't think Hill could have made such an easy pass to Laettner, though. It could have forced a Duke player to run closer to make the catch and put up a much more difficult shot from way farther out. Oh well, could have, should have, would have... I guess we should focus more on today now.

I'm a UK fan but you're wrong. The rules in 1992 aren't the same as they are now. You had to punch someone then to be thrown out. I look back now and understand Laettner's reasoning, UK puts in a player who never plays and he baits Laettner. Laettner gives him a love tap (you see Timberlake getting up laughing). A technical was called on Latettner, the proper call for 1992 - today, he'd get tossed.
