Strangely enough, Bashkortostan celebrates its independence from Russia (11 Oct) and joining Russia (12 June). However, the 12 June is also called the Day of Russian Independence and The Day of Russia. It is interesting that the public is not really keen to celebrate any of these. Nevertheless, it is just another holiday. Another point is that all nationalities in Bashkortostan speak Russian language and only elderly people in some Bashkir villages speak Bashkir language only.

The presenter more concentrates on Bashkir culture, their religion, sport, etc. in the republic of Bashkortostan. However, there are about 4 million people live in the republic at the moment with 36% of Russian and only 29% of Bashkir. The rest is Tatar (24 %) and other nationalities.

I believe that Kumis (кумыс or horse milk) is actually much healthier then all of these yogurts in British supermarkets.
