This video demonstrates my RCBS Pro 2000 progressive reloading press. I am loading .45 target ammo with Rainier Ballistics 230 gr plated RN, 4.8 gr Winchester 231 powder, and CCI #300 large pistol primers in APS strips.

  • Nice set up, however, I must call your load into question. 4.8 gr of W231 must have one hell of a time pushing a 230 gr projectile over 700 fps. I've never seen load data for these variables under 5 gr.

  • I agree. However these are target rounds. I typically shoot 200 rounds a session in my 3" Kimber TU2. Any hotter rounds are too much. Carry ammo is Horaday TAP.

  • This is the first one (progressive) i have seen that doesn't move the shell holder as you pull the actuator.

  • You can get the auto-indexer. I'm not sure yet if I want it. I don't want too much automation. Perhaps if it can easily be disabled.

  • does the primer strip auto feed. didn't look like it was moving at all

  • Yes, it auto-feeds.

  • your crystal ball is a lying bitch. get a new ball.

  • Nope, you can actually make much better ammo than factory if you pay attention to what you are doing.

Factory ammo is made to shoot in all guns for everyone. If you reload your own you can customize the round to your own pistol/rifle and it will shoot much better. Go to the really big shooting events and all the shooters load their own ammo.

  • Do you have any experience with the Rock Chucker Press and the "Piggy Back 4"? I have heard that it is similar to you setup... What do you think about it?

  • @rfengr00 Same here for .38 Special loads and the Airweight snubbie. Got a nice little target load, just below the minimum listed charge, which makes those guns tolerable and even fun to shoot.

  • @smttysmth02gt Dillon's RL-550B is the other one. It's called "manual indexing". While Lee progressives do have the auto-indexer, you can pull the auto-index rod and also operate those in manual-indexing mode.

  • @tomharrell1954 top snipers will always load their own ammo aswell. Ammo made in a huge factory is great but when u want to shoot 1000yrds or more its nice to be able to measure every grain of powder and bullet.

  • why dont u like th auto index and do they charge extra for auto index?

  • i have be looking at this gem...do you know if it will do 300win mag, 223, 3006 i also have 9mm and 40sw

  • @rfengr00 Looks good with straight wall cases, how about bottle neck cases?

  • Actually there is data for a load like this, for 230 gr jacketed.Calls for win 231 @4.6gr, with a never exceed of 5.1gr. Vel should be in the range of 785fps. with a min OAL of 1.190. This is data that came with a set of lee dies for 45ACP. I have personally never used it and therefore assume no responsiblity if someone tries it. I have used bullseye lots and find that about a 4.6gr charge is great about 800fps very light recoil and fairly accurate with a 230gr jacketed rnd.

  • On the first I didn't know what the heck was that machine for, but when I watch, I realize in 2:26 min. that this is for done bullets. Nice.
