U.S. ambassador to India, Timothy Roemer on Monday, urged India and Pakistan to mutually find ways to reduce tensions without any outside interference.

Addressing a news conference in New Delhi, Roemer says bilateral relations between the two Asian countries will depend on pace, character and scope not outside interest.

India suspended a five-year-old peace process that included a composite dialogue with its neighbor, after the Mumbai attacks in November last year.

India blames the attack on Pakistan-based militants that were allegedly supported by state agencies. Pakistan condemns the assault on India's financial capital in which 166 people died and denied any official involvement.

Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh met U.S. President Barrack Obama in Washington on November 24.

[Timothy Roemer, U.S. Ambassador to India]:
"They talked at length about Pakistan and agreed one that a stable, peaceful Pakistan was in their interest, in the region's interest, and in India's and United States' interest. They also agreed to work together to defeat Lashkar-e-Taiba and other areas of safe haven for terrorists."

The U.S. is going to send a high level team with details on the Headley-Rana case, the terror duo part of a conspiracy behind the Mumbai attacks.

[Timothy Roemer, U.S. Ambassador to India]:
"That will not only continue like I said... that will be expanded as well."

The Federal Bureau of Investigation arrested U.S. citizen David Coleman Headley last month on charges of plotting terror-attacks overseas, including India. Pakistani-born Canadian citizen Tahawwur Hussein Rana was also arrested.

It is reported that Headley came in close contact with several unidentified leaders of Lashkar-e-Taiba a Pakistan-based terrorist organization with links to Al Qaeda.

Five Pakistani military officials were arrested earlier this week for their alleged connection with Headley.
