The British Navy had always been a rich source of inspiration for Music Hall songs and this 1932 ditty carries on the traditional jingoistic theme. At a time of worry over the economic situation (and near mutiny in the Royal Navy in 1931),such tunes were no doubt reassuring for the British Public.

Never in better form than on this exceptionally cheery Imperial record from the early thirties.
Where are the cheer up songs now in popular culture??.

These were certainly the best sellers i once read,rather than the sophisticated dance tunes(though still popular none the less)in the depression.

Cheerful Leslie Holmes also recorded "Meet the navy" for Imperial. Still on a maritime theme he recorded (for Regal) "He played his ukulele as the ship went down" They are all most entertaining.
