The International Space Station (ISS), received on their 145.800MHz downlink frequency in the 2 meter amateur radio band, on the morning of Saturday 29 January 2011.

The location is the south coast of England (West Sussex.) I'm using my Wouxon KG-UVD1P dualbander, an excellent radio for the price.

My antenna is a home-made two-element yagi, which is mounted vertically in the attic pointing east towards Brighton. So not only was the weak signal from the ISS getting through the roof, it was also reaching the antenna sideways-on! Not bad, coming from something travelling at 17,000 mph. It's a shame that we can't hear the uplink on 145.200.

The Yaesu FT-450 is connected to an MFJ Deluxe Versa ATU, connected to a random wire antenna (15m long.) Reasonable reception across the whole HF spectrum.

  • Tell me how i can do this at home? tell me all the things i have to buy

    please!

  • @darrylip Hi there, thanks for watching my video. Any scanner or handheld would do, as long as it can receive the 145.800MHz frequency and receive narrow-band FM. Elsewhere in my channel, you can see me using the Baofeng UVR-3 (very cheap) and Yaesu VX-170 (more expensive!) handheld transceivers, and the GRE PSR-295 scanner. Search for other videos on YouTube for people receiving the ISS for an idea of what you could use, and the possibilities of using bigger antennas. Good luck!

  • NICE VID M8 NEXT TIME TRY AND DX TO ISS AND SEE IF THEY CAN GET IT AS ANYTHING OVER 50 Mhz will not stay in the atmosphere so .:D

  • @Jamieduk999 I don't know why, but the idea of transmitting to the ISS doesn't get me going! I much prefer to receive it. If I do transmit one day, I will need to buy some new and better equipment first!

  • @iulianiasi OK what language is he speaking, then? It's certainly not Spanish... is it a regional dialect or something? Putting that information in would have been more helpful than typing "it sems that you are not so bright!" ;-)

  • I didn't know the ISS transmitted in Italian?

  • @MrEdTraveller Italian. as Italian I can confirm that.

  • i got this radio and it's awesome and now im upgrading my antennas......awesome buy one way cheaper than uniden or kenwood

  • @rmsproductions33 There's an updated version of the Wouxon dualbanderavailable these days, I've no idea what "improvements" it brings over the KG-UVD1P though. I bought the UVD1P in 2010, and it's still working perfectly in 2012 despite many hours' use. I think I paid about £90 for it, and if divide the number of contacts I've had into the cost, then it represents outstanding value for money. Almost everyone reports good audio as well. I would certainly recommend Wouxons with no hesitation!

  • @MrEdTraveller that makes total sense now, kind of a fool for not remembering that :) thanks

  • @Doggieman1111 grrrr woff woff ! grr woff woff !

  • @MrEdTraveller cheers for that.. think ill treat myself to a wouxan radio and a bearcat 3500 scanner. thanks for all your help :)

  • @sweetgyy What is junk? All suggestions for improving any future videos I make will be very welcome!
