  • singingabc, just saw your question..up side is getting to do what you love..down side is getting paid to do it...

  • the dowel is set in about 1/2" and glued , its simply used to hold it in the lathe chuck, so i have full access to the face to turn it, it also lets me return it too the lathe and re turn the the face if i mess up..( always leave an out), it is actually cut off before being installed on the case, I usually just glue them into the rounded part of the gooseneck...you can certainly turn them between centers with out a chuck, I did it that way for years until i got a lathe chuck and spigot jaws

  • Charles Neil is king! I could watch this guy sweep saw dust. He's a great teacher and demonstrator. I find myself watching his Woodcraft videos for products I'll likely never purchase because he makes even the boring/irrelevant stuff seem interesting, he's a funny guy too. He's got a great video for the Koch sharpening machine. I almost wound up buying the damn thing, even though I didn't need a one at the time.

  • Hey Charles, im only fifteen but im seriously considering woodworking as a career. What are the up and down side of woodworking?
