  • TuradotFanatic - bless you for posting this. Do you like the Nilsson/Corelli or Nilsson/Bjorling Turandot better?

  • Yes, and no. This is the most beautiful Nessun dorma to me, in some aspects. But...

    - Musally (ritm, musical phrase, etc.) I prefer the Domingo/Karajan version;

    - Strong and heroic voice, I prefer Corelli version (one I've posted, live at Met 1961)

    - The best High B "Vincerò..."... is this one!!! Ever!!!

  • Could you please give more informaton about this performance, I'll love to buy the record if it's available. Thank you.

  • I just know that he sang that live at 1944, and it was transmitted at radio broadcast.

  • Personally, I think his version might even be better than Pavarotti's.

  • I also think there's more drama in the last "vinchero" on those versions where there is a slight pause before the big note: vin-a-cherrrrrro.." as opposed to goin right into the big note vincherrrrro. jmo minor beef.

  • @halavey I love the fabulous singing, but the extra slow tempo lessens the enjoyment for me. People sometimes sing extra slow to create drama, but too slow becomes dirge-like and I loose the lilt and flow of the melody. jmo Wish he'd sped up a hair.

  • If you have Metropolitan as your main scene from 1938-1960, then you can´t only do radio.

  • @carroyoq San Francisco, War Memorial Opera House??? Sorry, my memory might be wrong on this. Many off the radio recordings are floating around. Bjorling barnstormed around and sang in many smaller venues that modern artists would not touch. The wonders of TV. I have original programs of Caruso and Company fropm many small towns that they would hit during the off season from the Met. (with their blessing)

  • @carroyoq It's also on one of his albums, called "The very best of Jussi Bjoerling"

  • Even better than his recorded 1944 version, which is the definitive "Nessun Dorma" by any standard. Superb !!!

  • He might of performed the aria but not the role.

  • Oh how right you are my friend,i am replying to your post to regarding Mario lanzas,Nessun dorma ,this is much better truly wonderfully sung,thank you from the uk,best regards

  • Halavey, you are so wrong, Jussi performed this aria at the Royal Albert Hall

  • Yes live on radio he sang the aria but he was a smart tenor and never sang the role live on stage. His complete recording of it is my favorite recording of the opera but live I like Corelli, Jussi does the better job on the complete recordings. This tempo is very slow so he has to really work but his breath is great he was 33 years old.
