Music from track 2 of a 1974 Muzak LP known to collectors as the "Blue Album", demonstrating the concept of Stimulus Progression. As a predecessor of Environmental Music, Stimulus Progression was typically heard as background music in supermarkets, departments stores and offices from the 1940's to the 1970's. Stimulus Progression was broadcast in 15 minute blocks, alternating between 15 minutes of music and 15 minutes of silence. Each quarter-hour program consists of 6 tracks, beginning with one of low level stimulus (i.e. stimulus level 1 of 6) and ends with a tune of more upbeat instrumentation (i.e. stimulus level 6 of 6). The average stimulus level for a quarter-hour block depends on the time of day. This in the second track in a 15 minute block of 6 songs.

  • @musclen2phat you are right.. I am a professional shop lifter and I am always amazed how the people are hypnotized when such a music is in a loop

  • This beats the crappy background music that is played these days in supermarkets and the like! I fondly remember Muzak! Please dump the current stuff and bring this back! I'm convinced it'll curb shoplifting, because the turds that shoplift will either fall asleep listening to this or they'll run screaming from the store after they hear this! All kidding aside, this is really good music to me!
