This is the Doberman Pinscher Working Apititude Evaluation (WAE). The dog is tested by sending her through a series of experiences which slowly increase the pressure put on her, attempting to see how well she handles stress, and whether or not she can do what Dobermans were designed to do--protect their owner.

It starts with an innocuous meeting of a stranger who poses no threat, and then on to a friendly stranger. Sound sensitivity is tested through a series of sounds, stones rattling in a can, and a gun shot. Unusual footing is presented that they are expected to walk over, as well as an umbrella opened in their face.

The final test is that of a threatening stranger approaching and showing an intent to do harm. The dog is at least expected to stand it's ground and not back down. This is followed by a check to see if the dog cools down quickly enough to accept petting.

While some people train their dogs to pass the test, it was meant to be taken with no training to give breeders an indication of their dog's temperament under stress. Training for this tells you little about your dog's natural ability.

Parker is a rescue, she is spayed and will never be bred, but we wanted to see what she would do under pressure. She rocks!
