Where the hell did all that soup crap come from?
-
@mkarnerfors Being a cop or a judge, yeah... that *proves* they have done something to earn a different amount of respect. They have educated themselves, taken the training, learned the trade, passed the examinations, sworn the oath and so forth. As such they have proven worthy of the respect that behooves the office.
But the average Joe & Jane Bland... they get nothing more or less based on their age.
-
@rebelnomo That's just stupid. It's ceremonial lipservice.
Everyone deserve equal amount of respect until they have proven they deserve more or less. Age does not prove that. An old person may have been a cantankerous fart from puberty and have done absolutely nothing with their gift of life... and I'm still supposed to assume he's a better person than a young guy for instance that may be a war veteran at 25?
That doesn't fly. Until I know more, everyone gets the same treatment.
-
@mkarnerfors Because they haven't done shit yet. Personally I really don't care, just grew up sayin yes sir and yes maam to people, especially older people. And especially judges and coppers and shit.
-
@rebelnomo Let me turn the quetion around then... why should you not show young people exactly the same respect as your show your elders? Are they lesser people or something?

Sean Connery's son vs. Joe Pesci's brother
-
@firehead2k Because you should respect your elders. I'm sure your parents are the type who didn't teach you any manners when you were a kid and there are probably many other typical things they didn't teach you if you had to ask that. Some people nowadays are just classless.

@3axim You are absolutely right. Because any job done is gonna have some minor imperfections that nobody but a pro would ever notice. When the new pro does come in, he's gonna always point that out to the owner just to make himself look better, because it was probably a competitor who did the first work. There are guidelines in every specifications that allow for a certain amount of leeway in nearly every job.

Fair judgement. Must have been pretty grim for the other neighbours - nice to see that both guys have a responsible and mature attitude now that the business is over. x

i like the voice of the old man and his attitude.
A tip to anyone out there who hires a contractor or labourer of any kind - they ALWAYS make fun of any previous work. They will always tell you the last person who painted/plumbed/wired/paved your house was an idiot and that you are so lucky they came and saved the day, of course it's going to cost a little extra while we fix what the last guy did.........
