In which Scott wishes everyone a happy First Contact Day! As we discovered in "Star Trek: First Contact," April 5, 2063 is the day humans made first contact with the Vulcans.

  • I ALWAYS start to cry (with joy) whenever I watch this scene. It's a touching moment to see two different humanoid species meeting face to face; a sign that the universe does not just revolve around Earth and the importance of having a peaceful society.

  • One of the best scenes in the trek universe ever, well....that and his scream duing the first warp flight. If you take the effect from the new trek movie, as the saucer elongates and apply something similar to the phenoix....yea, id probly scream too.

  • That vulcan ship is so badass.

  • @gabe228 The WWIII idea was conceived back in the TOS days so it was long before today's political problems, but religion and the differences it creates probably factored somewhere in Gene's ideas IMO.

It was partially to do with eugenics (like the Nazi Master Race plan on drugs) but there were probably a whole myriad of reasons. Either way, I found it optimistic that humanity still managed to find itself after effectively being blown to oblivion.

  • @Standuble oh there was a world war in star trek universe in the near future? No wonder... did the trek writers incorporate today's Islamic Fanatacism as reason?

  • @gabe228 It was ten years after a terrible world war, tailor made suits are probably tough to get hold of.

As for me, I wouldn't mind dressing like a homeless person if I can see a new era for humanity. Here's to the real April 5th 2063 holding some candle to the date in Star trek history.

  • humans dressed so corny in the future

  • Love this, and like the opening commentary! If we'd stop being so petty about bullshit like war, Wall Street, and politics, maybe we could start working a lot harder towards a first contact in our lifetimes.

  • Peace and Long Life
