John wouldn't know to look for a 'planet' to live on at the end, because he doesn't know what a planet is. He only had the postcard of 'Shell Beach' to go on... & so recreated it.
Love the directors cut! A much smarter & more subtly insidious film. Alex Proyas' crowning achievement!

@AkimboJoe That was the reason for Ridley Scott putting the voice-over on 'Blade Runner'. In the end it killed the movie, slowed it down too much. Every now and then a movie is made that challenges us to think. I think most of the general public leaves their brains at home when they go to the movies.
