Hey, I bailed from Seattle that year, too. Last day of September. As far as Martin goes, I just remember him raving about L.A. and suggesting that we all move down there. Wrong city to be saying that shit, dude. Doesn't he know people in Seattle, for the most part, can not stand anything at all having to do with the city of Los Angeles? Regardless, I went back to ignoring the band after Krusen left, but, he apparently played on the majority of one of their recent LP's?

I saw Modest Mouse that summer as well. They were promoting "Lonesome Crowded West". They blew my mind! I miss old-school Modest Mouse.

Funny, but, that's the only version of that track that I can stomach. Nice and raw.

@Fakename70 I guess they must have done some other dates in '99. I actually left Seattle in Feb '99, so the Mural show was definitely prior to that. I'm pretty sure it was a Pain In The Grass show in the summer of '98. And yeah... I only went because Dave was in the band. I remember Kevin Martin's stage presence seemed a bit phony... like a politician or something. He kept addressing the crowd as "my friends" in a detached sort of way. Dave KILLED it though! Wish there WAS YouTube of that show!

Not that it ultimately matters, but, I'm pretty sure that Mural show was '99. They did an in-store acoustic show at Tower (Mercer) the next day, Sunday. I saw their show w/ PARC Boys (replacing Green Apple Quickstep, I believe) at the Showbox when Happy Pills came out, and that was '98, right? Been looking for clips from that Mural show here at YouTube, but, haven't had any luck. People (even those who aren't fans of Candlebox) NEED to see that show! That day was insane!

@Fakename70 yeah, I saw him with Candlebox at the Mural Amphitheater in '98 (we were probably @ the same show). I also saw him with Diamond Star Halo at the Colorbox in downtown Seattle probably around '95. I actually got to talk to him at the Colorbox show (small place). Pretty nice, humble guy. He is a lightning fast drummer. His rolls are among the fastest I've personally witnessed. Very solid, very tight and very "in the pocket". I think he and Dave A are pretty equal in their own ways.

Dave with in a few of my classes at Gig Harbor High. Basically he was a outstanding drummer early on. One day at GHHS, Dave , Tal Geotling and Jerry Burch played a song from Van Hallen during lunch.
This guy influenced my playing soooo much. His drumming is just brilliant on Ten. That wickedly sounding snare drum and such great vesitility in drum beats, such as in Deep and Garden... You know what i'm talking about. When people say that oits so evident that abruzesse is better; i don't agree; they are both different. Abruzzese snaps while krussen roooollllsss.

there seems to be alot of speculation about the pearl jam drummer story and this isn't helped by the band not giving any information about what really happened. All I can gather is that to some extent it was at least partially the drummer's decision to leave and likely mixed with some influence from the band to do so. Either way, Krusen, Chamberlain, Abbruzzese, Irons, and Cameron are all legendary and highly skilled drummers both with PJ and in their own right. I like them all.
