Amid discussions about the global recession at the World Economic Forum have been pleas to keep aid flowing to the world's poorest. But Dambisa Moyo, a former Goldman Sachs economist, questions that logic in her book Dead Aid. Colin Brazier spoke to her.

we have to stop depending on handouts. its live with dignity or die! if aid was to be stopd we wud be forced to stand on our own two feet, most think they are not strong until being strong is there only option.

@acavideo Well she is African, and is clearly intellectual, ambitious, civilized and creative . So why would she "admit" something that she (and anyone who has FIRST HAND experience of Africa) knows for sure to be untrue?

@chatman48 You really have no understanding of what she is saying if you believe that. Dambisa is a Maroon, she wants to run away from the plantation and make it on her own no matter how "good" Massa treats her. Whereas Uncle Tom is quite comfortable to sit up in Massa's house eating their scraps and being their lapdog. Those African leaders who dance to the tune of international donors and neglect their people are the real Uncle Toms.

She is wrong, when you have those from the western world stealing all of the resources of Africa, aid is their reasonable service.

she's wrong. Aid is definitely NOT killing Africa.. she fools the reader into thinking that there is a true causal link. Sure, aid has been inefficient in some respects, but don't cut all of it!
The PROBLEM here is not aid... but one of governance in African countries...

@acavideo Your comment is so racist and offensive. There are many educated Africans on the African continent. You fail to acknowledge the role the western world has in the problems on the African continent. The western world keeps African nations POOR due to the so called debt repayment. The whole foreign aid industry just keeps Africans poor.
