The great singer-songwriter---creator of hits for Eagles, Linda Ronstadt, James Taylor, Roy Orbison, etc.---talks about his new album, which offers definitive new versions of many of his classics.
Just wonderful. Thanks to all concerned especially JD himself. This is a real gem and I just love the new CD. If you want to hear real musical class just buy it.
"Is that John Jorgenson at 00:38?" Pretty sure it is... I had to go find to other pics in order to form an opinion. The picture of John I have in my mind is in a sequined western suit standing to the left of Chris & Herb in Desert Rose. The guy in the video doesn't look anything like that..:)
Natural History is a fine piece of work, perhaps Souther's best. Unlike many of his peers in the biz, the years have been kind to JD's voice, at least as a vehicle for these songs. He is vocally a better match for them now than when they were first written. The new arrangements add a great deal to several of the cuts. In particular, the piano-driven "Best Of My Love" is elevated from the mildly pleasant dirge of the Eagles version to candidacy as an enduring pop standard. Great!
Fred Mollin, I would kiss your feet for producing this.album. Just goes to prove that it's not always the musicians who come up with the great ideas. I guess that's why George Martin was always called "the fifth Beatle".
Going to hear JD Souther tonight & cannot wait! I first heard of him when I saw his name on a Linda Ronstadt album 30 years ago. It sounds like his voice is perfection..
By far one of the best singer/songwriters! I am so glad he is touring. When seeing him two years ago it was the such an important highlight of my life...He sounds fabulous; a voice and face that melts my heart..
