Slideshow video of the 2009 OPITO Engineering Summer School held at Hethel Engineering Centre. The video contains photos and clips from both the July and October groups of students.
The challenge was for students to design build and test an automated drilling platform that could keep a set distance above a body of still water at different water levels.
The students used CAD software and CAM to produce the parts for their build. The models themselves were programmed using Circuit Wizard software and powered by 18 pin Genie PIC chips.
The Summer Schools were funded by OPITO and supported by Petans, eeegr, Seajacks and Perenco.
@happygamestvfun1 From the software side there is the GENIE Design Studio which is a free download for education purposes which is used to programme the GENIE PICs, Circuit Wizard incorporates all of the programming elements of GENIE Design Studio but also includes circuit design and discrete electronics elements. So yes, you are correct they are both separate programmes.
We find both packages excellent for introducing students to electronics as they are very intuitive.
