St. Patrick's Hospital stands for the bio-chemical model in dealing with depression and other mood disorders. On the other side of the spectrum was Dr Michael Corry.
He sadly died this month and i dedicate this little video to him. He saw depression not as a sickness but as an emotion that has causes in peoples lives and that this emotion can be changed and the experience of suffering can be turned into a valuable experience. May he rest in peace. May someone else step up and continue his work. please have a look at the Fox News piece on the Zyprexa scandal in the U.S. . :

It's mindblowing to see what pharmaceutical companies do to promote their "bestsellers".

  • I recently did work experience at the hospital and I can't see the objective in showing grey stills of its stone exterior and the wall opposite its main entrance .

  • @conorl858 i'm not astonished that someone working in the hospital can't see objectives inside or outside the hospital. I think the objective of the people going into the hospital is healing. Thank you for your comment.

  • This hospital excels at propaganda, it's treatment is negligent, it's staff uncaring, Patients incarcerated for being depressed. 35,000 euro for 62 days "treatment", 30 mins max with psychiatrist a week, 5 1hr meeting with psychologist and the nurse told me they don't have time to talk to patients, just tick boxes then! The only treatment was drugs and patients were pressurized to take sleeping tablets ever night.

  • All Irish Mental Hospitals that don't use Wellness Recovery Plans are not worth a visit. You can surely make a farce out of those plans too but not to try at all sit down with the person concerned and to work out what should or could be done to improve their enjoyment of life is ridiculous. no plan ...i don't want to say more.

  • I'd like to respond to the promotional video on St Patricks I've just watched. The fact you can't comment on it's content speaks volumes I think. "Not for Profit" it advocates- what an untruth. It is all about profit for them. They mention recovery, providing the skills, knowledge and support to get better - most definately NOT TRUE. The garden being lovely - more like a concrete jungle!!. Follow up after treatment - are you kidding me??. The patient being actively involved - RUBBISH.

  • I went through the revolving door of this hospital many times and saw the same people over and over. There is no will to find a cure to your problem here. Only to create career "patients" who will keep the Health insurance companies money flowing. It is run as a Hospital but it is really just another business where the consumer is medicated beyond caring about his next insurance premium hike.

What would hippocrates say? you should all be struck off and charged with fraud.

  • This is beautiful. I love Dr Michael Corry too, he was an amazing human being with a God like soul. I really miss him. x
