In November, we held the first Young Workers in Action course in Edmonton with 20 course participants from across the Prairie Region. The 3.5 day course covered a variety of topics including labour history, the PSAC structure, unions and oppression, communications, planning for the future and more.
Participants responded very well to the course and provided great feedback, including ideas for how to improve and expand the course. Here's what some participants had to say:
"[I was inspired by] the passion that we all have to make a change and continue to grow the union with youth [members]."
"The union is MORE than just day-to-day issues in our workplaces."
"Though youth may not have a strong voice within our specific workplace, we do have a voice."
"It was shocking to me to see where we came from. If we don't know where we're coming from, we are going to get lost."
"The possibilities for change are so high because there are new activists waiting to take charge and create change -- they are passionate and dedicated!"
"I have come out of this very inspired and more knowledgeable. [I] feel so much stronger about my role as an activist and as a young, diverse woman in the workplace, and I'm eager for my voice to be heard."
