"Since day one when I turned professional I've been getting criticised and today I proved everyone wrong," he told Sky Box Office.

"I know I got beat by Breidis Prescott but that was a mistake and I really say it's a blessing in disguise what happened.

"Since then I've moved to Freddie Roach's gym at the Wild Card and Freddie has just changed me as a fighter. You can see the difference in me now.

"It was make or break for me, even Freddie said to me 'if you lose this fight you can pack your bags, forget about a world title fight'."

Khan though never looked like losing.

Just as impressive as his trademark handspeed and blurring combinations, was his defensive work.

Although at 35 and hardly able to see for blood Barrera was not at his best, he rarely looked like catching Khan.

Quick on his feet and fighting from behind a new, high guard, the 22-year-old looked a different fighter to the one that had beens stunned by Prescott.

"The training I did in LA was to hit and move, to be sharp and be careful, be patient and get behind the jab," he said.

"Every time in the corner Freddie said the same, 'get in the middle of the ring, use the jab and the guy won't hit you'.

"I shut the critics up - I hope. It was a tough fight for me but I went in there and made it easy and made it work with the performance."

Promoter Frank Warren said the performance proved that Khan is good enough to win a world title.

And the view was backed up by Roach, who believes Khan will follow in the footsteps of the pride and joy of his talented stable, Manny Pacquiao, and reach the pinnacle of the sport.

"It was a beautiful gameplan and he really worked it well," said Roach.

"He's maturing more and more all the time and he can follow these plans now - it was perfect.

H"e'll be my next world champion for sure. I've no doubt about it."

  • @PangeaSpreads lol hes fought better opposition at his age then any other British boxer, yet Hatton got his recognition. And you say that the average British white male does not have racial tendencies that the best in Britain is a Pakistani representing this country. You ungrateful twit.

  • I'd like to see khan fight Prescott again.

  • @futurepast1 I've not come across any news of a Prescott re-match, a lot of comments but nothing solid, especialy from the Khan camp. Why on earth would Prescott duck Khan, he destroyed him, lots of cash, title? other than if he was approached with a fight deal in which he must take a dive during the fight to make Amir Can't look good. Anyone can get caught from Lewis to Ali but the best arrange a re-match next fight. Not like Khan, who fights good boxers with great records but not great boxers.

  • @PangeaSpreads , hes since tried gettint the prescott fight on and they duckd him.

maidana is not average and maidana will lose

  • Nice one Kahn, now go find another soft punching nobody to fight and then call everyone racist for not embracing you after you promote the crap boxers you fight as world class. You want a bit of respect? stop talking crap about racial discrimination and go fight someone decent, o ya I forgot it's you thats been over hyped and promoted for some odd reason. Rubbish you say? Remeber Prescott? by no means the best around but that humiliating ko proves how average you are and you ducked him sinse

  • I am completely astonished by the way everybody is writing off Murray. Khan got completely flattened by a painfully average fighter. Murray is a much better, well rounded fighter, with a ridiculous volume of quality and quality body punching. Just because you're sponsored by Nike and have thousands of bandwagon boxing fans doesn't mean you're better Amir - in fact, quite the opposite.

  • warren is a class promoter khan shouldve stayed with him!

  • the fight should have been stoped the cut gave khan that fight and it shouldnt have that fight was no contest in my eyes. all he did is hit on a blind man fuc sake id beat him if he couldnt see. this just shows how much of a fake khan is no the fight wasnt really fare he couldnt see. no we will get it on again. no im going after prescot to prove myself. no prescot lets get it back on in a rematch im calling you out. just im ace and i proved myself. lol yegh right amir you big puss you did chit

  • dirty paki drop dead

  • Lenox Lewis got knocked out by oliver Mc call at 24-0 and yet became heavyweight champ.

(everyone questioned his chin) Khan was rocked by prescott when he was 18-0.Could still become World champ.

(everyone will still question his chin)

This match with Barerra proved little, the cut stopped the fight, not khan.

Barrera is a worn out fighter with 72 FIGHTS!

He will do well in this weight class only 2 fighters are a danger to him.

Probably will be the #1JR welterweight champ.
