Detailed explanation : http://photosounder.com/blog/2009/10/new-instrument-isolation-techniques.html

Using the new "road roller" (smart erase) tool combined with the harmonics modifier and the magnet modifier, I was able to isolate the 24 second long synth line at the end of Ohio Player's Funky Worm in about one minute. Back in March 2009 I tried the same thing in Photoshop and it took me about ten hours!

The result isn't completely clean but what is show here is the bulk of the work, for a better result only a bit more cleaning would be necessary. All the work done in this video is shown in real time, only the synthesis parts were shortened.

  • good ... not "clean" though

  • Yeah, that's most of the job done in a minute, but it definitely would require some further cleaning to be anywhere near usable.

  • non the less STILL impressive ... I can't wait to see how this technology progress' into something a little more user friendly :-)

  • Well as far as what was demoed here is concerned, it's going to be hard to make it more user friendly short of making it all automated like Melodyne DNA, but there indeed lots that can be done using such approaches, and I'll make sure that whatever is found out will make its way into Photosounder ;-).

  • sigh wish it was free though, the demo doesn't allow you to save

  • Damn how did you do that!

  • holy shit thats so sick

  • Estou a bater mal... o mesmo que faz o prsosoniq Soniworx...

  • Yep, you can draw stuff up with the white spray tool.

  • *phew* I thought my forehead got 5 times hotter than the sun there for a second...I'll try the demo again next weekend when I come back from my other house in California. If Photosounder is worth having, I may buy the full version.

Does Photosounder allow people to draw on the spectrogram to make sounds? That would be cool.

Photosounder looks complex, but I think I can handle it.
