Country: United Kingdon

Denomination: Church of England, Anglican Episcopal Church

Beverley Minster, in Beverley, East Riding of Yorkshire is a parish church in the Church of England. It is generally regarded as the most impressive (architecturally speaking) church in England that is not a cathedral.

Originally a collegiate church, it was not selected as a bishop's seat during the Dissolution of the Monasteries; nevertheless it survived as a parish church, and the chapter house was the only major part of the building to be lost. It is part of the Greater Churches Group and a Grade 1 Listed building.

  • I'm a Roman Catholic from Dublin,Ireland and I visited Beverley Minster in 1962 . I was friendly with a female librarian who used work in Beverley Road library,Hull and her name was Roslyn Huefe.She brought me carol singing with her protestant friends and I enjoyed the Christmas in Beverley in their company. I'm now aged 71.

  • @3fourtime God bless you always... Jesus said: come to me!!

  • No, I have not seen yet, but I will see. Indeed, as you said, we feel God in the eyes, the feel in contemplating the greatness of your home.

    There's been the odd Anglican church which has fallen into RC hands, having been made redundant, but they've all been Victorian or more recent, unless anyone can tell me otherwise. Having said that, there are some places (like Cheadle, Staffordshire) where the Victorian Catholic church is more medieval than the Anglican church!

  • I live near that loverly Church

  • Who disliked the Beverley Minster?! Or were they disliking the "Beverley Cathedral" error in the title? :P

  • It is only a church as York is not far away and therefore is not needed as a cathedral,even though it is grander than many cathedrals.

  • @supernatural2029 yes ,mostly

  • The first song is Orlando Gibbons' "Song 22".

  • An example of the belonging of a great part of the Anglican Communion to Protestantism , while a minority ( " High Church " ) inclines towars Roman Catholicism ;

    but most of the members of this minority are in the process of joining the Roman Catholic Church since the ordination of women in the Anglican/Epicopalian Church , and , recently , the appeal by pope Benedict XVI th to them to conversion to its Church ...
