Bistirno Parore is one of the best Assamese rendition of Late Dr. Bhupen Hazarika.
The song is inspired by "Ol' Man River" and also has versions in the Indian languages Hindi and Bengali, sung by Bhupen Hazarika, who met Paul Robeson while studying at Columbia University. The Bengali version is "Bistirno Dupare" and the Hindi composition is known as "Ganga Behti Ho Kyun". Instead of the Mississippi, the song is dedicated to the Brahmaputra river in the Assamese version and the Ganges river in the Bengali and Hindi versions.
