Chiquitita from ABBA's Voulez Vous album in 1979.
The working title of this song was 'In The Arms Of Rosalita.' and a short version of this song is here on youtube and is really worth a listen.

Hope you enjoy this!!

Lyrics:
Chiquitita, tell me what's wrong
You're enchained by your own sorrow
In your eyes there is no hope for tomorrow
How I hate to see you like this
There is no way you can deny it
I can see that you're oh so sad, so quiet

Chiquitita, tell me the truth
I'm a shoulder you can cry on
Your best friend, I'm the one you must rely on
You were always sure of yourself
Now I see you've broken a feather
I hope we can patch it up together

Chiquitita, you and I know
How the heartaches come and they go and
the scars they're leaving
You'll be dancing once again and the pain will end
You will have no time for grieving
Chiquitita, you and I cry
[ Lyrics found at www.mp3lyrics.org/AQ ]
But the sun is still in the sky and shining above you
Let me hear you sing once more like you did before
Sing a new song, Chiquitita
Try once more like you did before
Sing a new song, Chiquitita

So the walls came tumbling down
And your love's a blown out candle
All is gone and it seems too hard to handle
Chiquitita, tell me the truth
There is no way you can deny it
I see that you're oh so sad, so quiet

Chiquitita, you and I know
How the heartaches come and they go and
the scars they're leaving
You'll be dancing once again and the pain will end
You will have no time for grieving
Chiquitita, you and I cry
But the sun is still in the sky and shining above you
Let me hear you sing once more like you did before
Sing a new song, Chiquitita
Try once more like you did before
Sing a new song, Chiquitita
Try once more like you did before
Sing a new song, Chiquitita

  • ABBA had so romance in their music. It touches the soul like no American ever did at the time or since. I doubt that it is possible for American music to even the surface of such romance. The genius of ABBA was that the made romance popular again, and did it with a lovely beat. Clearly, too good for Americans.

  • I tend to agree with that! ABBA are very special!

  • "the wedding is tomorrow" refers to Sophie's wedding in the movie

  • yeah that's right, and the fact that Donna is crying and as you said, the wedding is tomorrow, and her friends are worried about her :)

  • In the movie Mamma Mia Tanya and Rose add lib one part of the of the song where they say and your darter's wedding is tomorrow insted of singing In your eyes there is no hop for tomorrow. Why do you think they did that?

  • Because when they were making Mamma Mia! The Musical, Benny and Bjorn were there as you probably know, and one day, Bjorn when they got to that part, Bjorn says "and the wedding is tomorrow!" so they put it in, I guess it's just so the words fit just a little better with where they are in the movie. The rest of the song is pretty much the same after that though!

I watch the movie yesterday again haha and ABBA The Movie again! lol

  • There will never ever be a musical group such as this that evoke such great memories of happier times in this world than ABBA. Like the saying goes, "you don't know what you've got till it's gone! All people under 40, it's too bad you didn't live any of ABBA' s music, to be able to stroll down memory lane to realize what i'm talking about! Thanks ABBA, for being there in my younger days!!
