MAKE BELIEVE IT'S ME

Once upon a time a fool believed in you;
But "happy ever after" never did come true.
I'm the fool who loved no one but you;
You're the queen who wanted someone new.
So if he's not the kind you thought that he would be,
Then make believe it's me.

Time and time again you had me on my knees;
And now it feels so good to hear you ask me "Please".
You were living in a fairytale,
But even storybook romance can fail.
So cry at night and hold your pillow tenderly,
And make believe it's me.

Make believe you're counting every star above you;
You could count them all before I said I love you.
So cry at night and hold your pillow tenderly,
And make believe it's me.

(From the 1982 album, "Blue November")

  • Bob, you are responsible for the fact that I played in bands for over twenty years by giving me a chance at Poor Richard's Pub in 1978. I did two songs with Liverpool one night when I could barely play and I was hooked. I practiced hard for a year and then joined my first of many many bands. You also let me play my own songs there when you would solo, which was very kind of you. Hanging out in your basement with you and Rich are some of the best memories I have. This song is an instant favorite.

  • Thank you, old friend

  • Well, thank you, Brian. I think Todd may have heard this track some time ago; can't quite remember. And Nilsson was a dear pal whom I sorely miss. Hang in there: I do have many more pop/rock tunes that will just require time to prepare as videos. Stay tuned!

  • Another one of my favourites - and ***so*** Beatles-ish!! Very nice idea with the Beatles-girls in the clip. *

  • Nice to know somebody noticed! Thanks for that*

  • Cool song, Robert--

    It's Chad and Jeremy meets the Beatles meets Peter and Gordon. Sweet. Pretty pictures too.

  • Thanks, Cas. And I agree with your assessment: the sound of The British Invasion was my intention. Glad you liked it.

  • Awesome!

  • Robert,

    This is a great classic rock song. I saw it on a Todd Rundgren link. I think Todd would really like it, but I don't speak for him. Then your other stuff is very old school Nilsson, who I love, but disappointed you have no other pop rock tunes because you do it so well.

  • Stand in line bud. If you've ever heard R&F, you would understand.

  • Jane Asher, Cynthia Lennon, Maureen Cox? Hmmm. Do they make believe....aside rom Maureen RIP?
