One of the reasons Weird Al is funny is that he's so literal. I looked up all the references that I didn't understand...but I wasn't able to figure out who Buddy Rif was or what a 'manolo' was (so don't ask ^^)

By the way, the "are we playing horseshoes? / no I don't think we are" and "are we lobbing hand grenades, kiddo? / No I don't think we are" are references to a saying, "'close' only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades." And int he third verse, "Are we doing government work here? / No I don't think we are" is a reference to "Close enough for government work."
