not sure about freeware.
I got a copy of FRAPS from a friend. It works very well. They have a free trial but I don't know what limitations it has.
I also use it to display frame rates which you can see in my pics. the small yellow numbers in the upper right corner.

I know. Has to be a pain in the ass to go to that dangerous battlefield just to get the ammo.

Actually, I found you can do it on any difficulty but on the easier settings the enemies kill themselves off too quickly to get that many guns. The key seems to be the minigun in the next room. One time I set a stapler on the fire button, aimed it at the door way to kill any thing that came through and went to the store. Came back an hour later and the batlle was still going, then just go hang out in the hallway until the fight dies down some and finish any starglers.
