Also, Guggisberg, in his book, wild cats of the world, mentions two siberian tigers, by william G. Morden, that weighed 550 and 480 lbs, respectively. The longer specimen measured 10.8 ft in length, over curves, and the other 9.5 ft, between pegs. Guggisberg also mentions a tiger measured by two scientists, kaplanov and Abramov, that measured 2.60 m, or 9ft in length, his head and body length being 6ft (1.72 m), his tail, 3 ft (88 cm). I hope this helps.

The average of these tigers then, would be about 183 kg or so, or about the size of most lion populations, perhaps a bit smaller.

@FNUICGKGIENRGS It sounds like you do indeed believe everything you read. Just because the source is reliable, doesn`t make the data reliable. Just so happens i`ve never been able to find verified accounts showing that tigers usually won in the coliseum. There is no proof, other then second and third hand accounts which likely stem from Martial, who only mentioned that one fight with the ending being unexpected. I do have an account of a lion and tiger fighting in the coliseum, and the lion won.

They all stem from Martial. Indeed, one source state that Martial claimed the tiger always won in the coliseum, and a lot of sources merely repeat that. Reading Martial`s epigrams, which was in italian but also available in english, he only mentioned that one fight, and the result was surprising.

@FNUICGKGIENRGS A couple of sources say it. You believe everything you read without questioning it? There are no available records on fights between lions and tigers in the coliseum. All sources stem from Martial, and he NEVER said the tiger generally won. Just mentioned that one fight. A lioness has killed a male bengal tiger before, as well. Just like that, an especially big or aggressive tigress may be able to beat a lion. It is very rare, but it happens.
